Hello everyone!
This was a much better exercise than the last 2; this was actually relaxing. I really enjoyed the ocean noises. I also really like that this exercise was all about loving and helping others. This is one of the things that people need to do more often, love their neighbor. People have fallen away from community and have been more focused on themselves. There is very little compassion between strangers in our modern world. This exercise is showing that it is OK to help others and extend kindness to them. There are people in this world that need much more kindness in their life than most of us. I think that this is a wonderful exercise that can really help people resolve inner problems and help them relax. I think that many worries that plague most people are caused by thinking of other people and what they may have done wrong. If a person can let go of these negative thought then they are letting go of many of their problems; with the release of your problems comes relaxation. I would recommend this exercise to other people. I am a pretty relaxed guy because I am not easily affected by the acts and thoughts of other people, I can easily brush those things away and go on with my day. I have enough worries of my own.
Mental workouts are just like any other workout. This is a regiment of daily exercise of the brain. This is equivalent to a body builder doing a daily workout in the gym. Studies show that daily exercise of the mind, over time, will increase the brain's mental capabilities. The brain must maintain this level of training to increase or maintain its capabilities. When the mind stops training than the mental capabilities of the mind will decrease. Mental health exercises can be implemented in everyone's life. The book says to do exercises everyday. I feel that the best way to implement this into my life would be to listen to these audio exercises during idle time such as when I am driving my car or doing solitary tasks at work; I spend a lot of time doing both driving and working alone.
Thanks everyone!

Bradley,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I have really enjoyed reading your blogs over the past couple of weeks and I like you had a huge sigh of relief when I began listening to this. No more annoying narrator and finally some real relaxation. I loved the addition of the ocean waves in the background, it really added to overall peacefulness of the exercise. I also like the message of this one as well. We as a human race need to learn to be more compassionate to our loved ones and our neighbors. Many have lost sight of what truly matter which is the relations and bonds we form with other people. We need to learn to nourish those instead of depriving them with things like work and school (even though those are also important). The key to happiness and health I think is moderation in everything.
Hey Brad, loving thy neighbor is something that we have gotten away from lately. Not even loving thy neighbor but just by putting down whatever technology is in our hand and saying hi will go a long way. I know it´s different for kids growing up today than it was 25-30 years ago when I was growing up. Kidnapping and abductions seem to be a lot more common now than in the past and in a way we have all diverted to our own panic room. It feels good to do some good for people, even strangers.
ReplyDeleteI think society needs to stress more on the benefits of mental training just like we see the fitness industry bombared us with ''we need to look like this'' and so on. I love any type of mental exercise, I´m a big fan of tai-chi. I practice the short form and it is one of my favorite things to do. being able to move gracefully like that feels so fluid like that it has carried over to my fitness training. See ya.
Hi Bradly,
ReplyDeleteI agree that we have become cold and uncaring as a human race especially when it comes to strangers. I think some of it is learned behavior because we have been burned before. We have seen that trusting someone can let us down. Even giving a homeless person money and seeing them just pocket it when we thought they looked hungry. We hear about people breaking down on the side of the road and being dangerous when we try to lend a ride..and other ways people can take advantage of kindness. Sometimes though, I feel that it is an excuse to turn away and go on with our busy lives. We could give the homeless person food if they say they are hungry. We could lend the people on the side of the road our cell phone. And we can practice loving-kindness everyone at no risk!! It is just a little time well spent.

Hey Brad, I also enjoyed this exercise because it not only focused on our loved ones, but also our neighbors. This world seems to be becoming more and more unfriendly each and everyday that goes by. Hate crimes are a huge problem in this world today and I feel like I hear about one everyday either on television or in the daily newspaper. These issues are affecting our world majorly and need to be stopped as soon as possible. Life is way too short to go around hating people. We need to start paying attention to what is really important to us in this shor life time and we need to spread the word about loving and respecting not only people close to us, but also people we don't really interact with each and every day of our lives. Hate is definitely an unhealthy thing, and if more and more people around us spread the love then this world would be a much better place to live in! Great post Brad!
